I’ve always been quite the over analyzer, no matter whether it had to do with relationships, school, friendships, or any other dramatic situation going on in my life. This has always been quite an obstacle for me to overcome. I always find myself thinking, “Why can’t I just go with the flow like everyone else?” I want to start dating a guy and not have numerous amounts of scenarios running through my head like what if he comes on to me and I’m just not feeling it, what if I am “feeling it”, how do I know if it’s too soon, and why is this so freaking complicated? You know, stuff like that.
However, in some instances, like this one, this annoying characteristic can be used for the good! For example, because my brain is continuously running and over analyzing the male breed, I came up with a metaphor to think about when you start to date a curious yet handsome individual. Dating men is like sampling perfume. Think it over for a second. You’re at the mall for some much needed “retail therapy” and happen to come across the cosmetic floor. You figure, “What the hell, I could always use a new bottle of perfume! I only have fifteen bottles anyway…I’m sure to run out soon!” You travel slowly through the cosmetic floor, preying on the different brands and cautiously avoiding any stampeding sales associates, who are just going to bother you with an unnecessary questioning session and attempt to use you for a sale. You pass different counters such as Estee Lauder, Clinique, Michael Kors, and Chanel. Finally, you come across a fragrance you would like to try. Just like dating, you shouldn’t immediately “go for the plunge” and go ahead with it primarily based on just because you’re attracted to it. This could be something that is in your life for a long time. You want to make sure it’s the right one. You kindly ask the sales employee, the one who didn’t attack you, to spray you a sample of the perfume. You waft the perfume sample, teasing your nose and move it away, waft the perfume sample, and move it away; better known as “Get a little sample, back it up, get a little sample, and back it up.” This is a continuous cycle you do until you’ve experienced the full effect of the perfume and realize whether you want it or not. See the resemblance?
When you start dating someone, even if you’re so attracted to the person you can barely stand it, you want to take things slow. Not saying you need to tease the poor man to death but take small steps by giving him “samples” of what it would be like to really be with you. If you go on a first date and BAM! you let him know everything about you and give in to any sort of temptation that evening, he’s going to lose interest. You want to leave something for the imagination.
Keep this in mind whenever you start dating the next prospective husband. A classy and sexy lady is surely the desire of a great catch!
